ESTA

  • Nov. 16th, 2009 at 5:33 PM
I've always previously travelled to the US on a visa but this time I am going as a visitor under the Visa Waiver programme. So today I went to check-in online for my flight tomorrow, only to be told that I needed to register under the ESTA scheme (which I did know about, I just forgot). The airline website gave the link, said it would take 15 minutes, I would get email confirmation and then be able to check-in. I followed the link, filled in the form, got online approval (which I printed out) then... nothing.

I'm not convinced that ESTA have my email address to send anything to me. Should I expect the airline to email saying they've received confirmation? I've tried checking-in several times since and still get the same message. I would really like to be able to check-in online because there are always huge queues at Manchester.

Anyone been through this and know what to expect?

There I am dweebing out with Atom's glasses after the Rob Zombie show tonight.

I totally slacked on getting tickets when I first heard about the show back in September and by the time I got around to actually trying to get any it was totally sold out. Upon waking today I had messages notifying me of a ticket that was available from a friend so I was good to go. Once I arrived at the venue I found a guy selling tickets out front and obtained one from him for Atom and he met me there and a lovely time was had.

I think Rob Zombie is fantastic, & he's one of the only people from the 90's who still rocks out like a fucking champ unlike a lot of performers who either disappeared or turned into shadows of their former selves. The show tonight was great, glad I was able to go.

All of my pictures turned out pretty shabby due to being kind of in the back so that's really the only decent one I have.

This weekend was pretty fun/productive. I went out to Subversion on Friday. Hung out with some of my peeps & had a good time. Saturday I did a bunch of cleaning & then 7 hours of studying up on photography related shit, and doing photoshop tutorials to better my skills. ...and then today was the RZ show & then another closet sorting/laundry extravaganza. I'm pretty sure I've successfully decided what I'll definitely be keeping & what I'm getting rid of at this point. I have a giant pile of things to sell. My collection of clothes honestly astounds me. It's taken me 3 years to go through everything and I've had countless giant sales and I STILL have TONS AND TONS of shit. WTF @ my previous life of a total shopaholic. I havent bought anything new in ages.

I'm drowning in pictures from events of late. I'm going to make it a point to try and do a photo post every day this week until I'm all caught up. Just too much to do outside of computer land lately.

Speaking of computer land that brings my thoughts back to myspace & more joyous offerings of humanity:

She's Got The Body of a Snake.

I was "inspired" this evening to do my makeup. I'm hoping to get back into a routine of doing it everyday. OKAY Okay, maybe not EVERY day, but a lot more often that's for sure. I basically never do it anymore and I feel like I'm wasting away. So yeah, it's definitely back on.

Sooo, yeah, I've been on a hiatus from everything for a while, and though I'm not going to say I'm going to start updating daily, considering I've never been too good at regular updates anyway OR keeping menial promises, I will just say that SINCE I am going to have this refreshed makeup routine, I will in fact be taking more pictures so there will be more to show. So, I will actively try and update with them when they are taken. I'm working on building a more extensive makeup portfolio so you will basically be seeing all of my options ahead of time.

Life has been really fast lately, I've been doing soooo much, but for the past 2 weeks I've basically been doing as little as possible, we have a very busy couple of months starting next week. So I've been trying to relax as much as I can because I don't know when I will be able to again.

I'm planning on doing a random picture post tommorow, I have an excessive amount of pictures to show you guys, and I've been slacking sooo long that there is almost no chance of "catching up" so I'm just going to do a HUMUNGOUS picture post with little to no explanation for events, happenings and dates. Sorry, but it would seriously take me a month to catch you COMPLETELY up to date. But I will do my best within reason.

sunday driving (poll)

  • Nov. 15th, 2009 at 10:34 AM
So, as those of you on my flist know, I'm in the process of working to get my UK driver's license on a standard transmission after many years of driving automatic. I already know UK and US attitudes towards manual v. automatics are very different, but further to some cultural confusion on my LJ, I have to ask the great transatlantic collective this exceedingly important and burning question about hill starts:

Poll #1485714
Open to: All, detailed results viewable to: All, participants: 117

Burning question!

View Answers

I start on a hill using the handbrake/emergency brake and I learned to drive in the US
12 (10.3%)

I start on a hill using the handbrake/emergency brake and I learned to drive in the UK
45 (38.5%)

I start on a hill using only the pedals and I learned to drive in the US
52 (44.4%)

I start on a hill using only the pedals and I learned to drive in the UK
8 (6.8%)

I don't think there's necessarily a right or wrong way--it's just that the familiarity with each method seems to fall pretty strictly across cultural divides on my flist. However, my instructor's teaching me to do it without--which shoots a hole in my theory, though he's taught a lot of American expats. So I'm looking for a larger pool of anecdotal evidence. ;)

eta: I just thought--it'll be interesting to see how many Americans participate in this poll vs. Brits.

My husband and I were married on August 8th of this year, and we planned on him moving here to America. Things happened, and now I'm moving there to be with him. I was reading on how to start the immigration for a marriage visa, but was totally confused, can anyone tell me or direct me to the visa/immigration process?
